A graceful painter with a striking, maximalist sense of colour, Georgie is a Melbourne based artist who’s passion is bringing moments of peace and joy together.
Georgie’s work is defined by a confident, expressive use of colour and a richly layered aesthetic. Her paintings often depict interior scenes, where abstract shapes, beautiful ceramics and natural stone textures sit alongside her love of elegant plant forms.
Her practice explores the balance between spontaneity and control, with loose, gestural marks offset by a careful sense of composition and calm.
Georgie creates works that feel both vibrant and grounded, inviting a sense of movement as well as quiet peace and stillness.
Artist Career Highlights
- Ran my own business selling original paintings, prints, cards, wrapping paper and notepads while raising two energetic boys.
- Collaborated with Spanish brand Miquelrius, Natty and Poly, Frankie Gusti, Apiary Made, Dusk and Sanctuary Studio.
- I had my first solo show in 2017
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work with fluid acrylics, collage, crayon and pastels to build layered, expressive paintings. I’m drawn to these mediums because they allow for both spontaneity and control—capturing movement while also refining balance and detail.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
With a rough colour palette in mind my work often begins intuitively, starting with loose, expressive marks. I will often start with literally scraping paint across the canvas to get all sorts of wild colour combinations. From there, I build layers—adding shapes, textures, and details while considering composition. looking at interesting plant shapes and elegant pottery, ideas evolve through play and refinement, reworking elements until the balance feels right.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I work from my upstairs studio in our mud brick home in Ringwood, Melbourne. This is where my practice sits between art and design. It’s a space that allows me to move fluidly between painting and textile development. My studio is small but amazing with lots of natural light.
