Jay creates her work from her Bargara Beach studio in QLD. Jay’s expressive works are often created in a trance like state, ideas often just start painting themselves. She paints ideas freely and not from an image. Some works are comments on society and quirky nuances. Other works reflect her surroundings living close to the ocean and her day to day life. Jay has a creative industries degree from James Cook University and a Diploma in Fine Arts. She has exhibited in QLD, NSW, VIC and her art has been purchased and sent all around the world. Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

Oil paint mainly ~ it gives such a good vibrancy with its richer, denser colours ~ toxic but vibrant!

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

My works reflects my day to day life. So most of the time I just start making and whatever i’m feeling inside my inner thoughts come out onto the canvas. Often I go into the studio not knowing what i’ll create, i’ll start making some initial marks then the painting morphs into what it was supposed to be.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I’ve had a few studios, my best one is my container studio (which was made by a dear friend) but currently I have an enclosed patio…no fancy big space. I’m aiming to crane my shipping container studio back into our new house by the beach very soon.
