Pearson
- Impressionism
- Oil Painting
John Pearson is an established Australian artist. He interprets the Australian landscape, capturing its subtleties of colour and light using a spontaneous technique in oils.
John also explores urban scenes and the place of the human figure. Newer works of cars and cityscapes have a contemporary feel and urgency. Other works capture the nostalgia of old VW Beetles and Kombis in a series depicting times passed and elements of surf culture. His works capture a soft mood and feeling of contemplation.

- Multi award winner since 1997
- Solo Exhibition - International Gallery Perth 1997
- Winner Landscape Best Oil - Kenilworth Art Award 2013
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I have worked almost exclusively in oils with occasional forays into acrylic, watercolours and drawing. My original degree was predominantly in oils and this has been my love.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
I love painting en plein air (on location) and this sets the theme for individual works, Random photographic references are also a handy source of inspiration as I interpret and develop the images I have captured. I usually do thumbnail sketches to design a workable layout and then work from that. In all of this three key elements are critical, composition (especially the relationship of lights and darks), light and colour.
