Simon Greetham is a painter and photographer originally from the North Devon coast in the UK now living in Perth Western Australia. He is the owner of Art Canvas Services Co.
Perth based artist Simon Greetham strips away extraneous detail, to create abstract and figurative artworks that embrace the philosophy less is more with his subtle interplay of space, form, and colour. His simple evocative paintings explore everyday moments and emotions, inviting viewers to connect with the ordinary.
Career Highlights
- I landed my first full-time staff photographer position in 1994.
- I turned freelance in 2000 and began selling my black and white limited edition photograph at Oxford’s Art & Antiques market.
- I opened Art Canvas Services Co in 2021, specialising in canvas stretching and framing for the WA art community.
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I predominantly use acrylic paint on cotton canvas. The fast drying medium suits my current practice. I play with oils and intend to use them more in time but for now I love my acrylics.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
I have completely embraced technology in my work. I have a photography background so take numerous reference shots of people, things, colours, textures etc. I will play with the images in 3 or 4 of my favourite apps to come up with working concepts before committing to canvas.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I paint in the back of my framing workshop. I usually have any number of partially complete works around me awaiting resolution. Pics of the workshop included in my portfolio.
