Daniella D’Cruz is an Australian contemporary artist exploring nostalgia, memory and domestic ritual.

Daniella D’Cruz is an Australian contemporary artist whose nostalgic still-life paintings explore memory, ritual, and the poetry of everyday life. Working at the intersection of abstraction and realism, her practice balances painterly detail with a bold, contemporary graphic sensibility. She repeatedly returns to familiar domestic motifs — “forever objects” that quietly outlive their maker — using them to reflect on permanence, presence, and the emotional weight held within ordinary things.

Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

While at university I studied several mediums but spent the majority of my time studying printmaking, etching and collagraph especially. For the past 7 years however, I’ve been practicing acrylic painting. I love acrylics for the fast drying time along with opacity and fluidity of the paints.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

I honestly paint what I love and what I have around me in my house. I always come back to my favourite gin bottles, glassware and fruit which I arrange on pretty fabrics, then sketching out a composition before committing to canvas.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I work from my home studio, custom built with bench space and lots of light. I have a big tabletop with a small printing press and lots of shelving space to display my op-shop finds and glassware. It’s convenient to work in my back garden but also separates work and home life.
