Based on Coochiemudlo, a small island situated approximately a kilometre off the coast of Queensland, between Brisbane and North Stradbroke Island, Millie, is innately influenced by the abundance of foliage and wildlife that inhabit her locality.

Unbound to a sole medium or creative methodology, her depictions align with the subject’s intrinsic elements and resonance. Millie paints in a way that depicts her thoughts and feelings of the subject, which has helped her tremendously throughout her adult life and experiences.
Millie possesses a BA in Fine Arts from Charles Sturt University and a Masters in Art Therapy from the University of Queensland.

Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I paint with acrylic and/or soft pastels, and at times, oil paint. Appeasing my impatience, Acrylics allow a quick drying time so that I can complete a painting within a shorter time frame. Acrylics also lend themselves beautifully to either canvas or paper. Pastels are my favourite, bright colours, immediate application and they have a wonderful textural quality.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

If the exhibition is themed, I begin to look at the words offered eg Storms and begin by writing meanings associated with that word. I listen to my intuition and follow my thoughts and feelings towards the subject.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I have a wonderful upstairs studio with wide windows that overlook some land filled with trees. The studio is light filled and has all the space I need to spread out. A little different to when I first started to paint some 40 years ago within a tiny kitchenette.
