Shannon Simm is a full time artist & tattoo artist living in Tasmania. Exploring the romance of the banal and the ever changing surroundings and details of her environment, her work captures a moment in time, as if the motion is still alive on her canvas. Shannon maintains a focus on capturing people and the untold beauty within every fold, skin pore, and angle, using light in a way that brings attention to the parts of one’s self that are purposefully hidden, and works to create a new found appreciation and love for.

Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work with oils, I find they are extremely forgiving to my erratic brush strokes, which is unexpecting in my works. They create a sense of depth and richness that I haven't been able to find in any other medium.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
It differs piece to piece, I have a habit of dreaming an idea and then wanting to get the vision on paper as quick as possible, usually being able to make my vision come to life reasonably accurately.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I live mobile in a truck that also acts as my studio, and have done for going on 7 years now. Being able to work wherever I go, usually up and down the coast from Newcastle to where home is in Eaglehawk Neck, Tasmania. My partner & I are starting to build a home at our block, which consists of the studio space of my dreams, and will be amazing to have a fixed studio space and still be able to park up in front of any landscape and paint my heart out.
