Lewis
Tara Lewis is an Emerald, Central Queensland–based artist who creates abstract paintings inspired by the vivid colours and organic forms of her regional landscape and home garden. Her practice explores the relationship between nature and emotion, using acrylics and mixed media to build layered, expressive compositions.
Her work often features bold brushstrokes, rich textures, and diverse mark-making techniques that reflect themes of growth, transformation, and the passage of time. Drawing on natural shapes and the shifting light of the Central Queensland environment, Lewis invites viewers to connect with nature in a personal and intuitive way.
Now a full-time artist working from her Central Queensland studio, Lewis previously studied at the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane. While administrative work once limited her creative pursuits, her move to Emerald enabled her to pursue painting full-time. She has since exhibited extensively across Australia.

Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
Acrylic, Mixed media (conte, pastel, charcoal, graphite). Acrylic is versatile and works well with other mediums, this allows me to explore layers of mark making.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
Drawing from memory, photos and previous work I will do some quick studies for composition as well as colours. During the painting process I will follow my intuition.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
For small works I have a room in my home and for large works I work in my art shed where I can be messy and when opened I am amongst the trees in my garden and the visiting birds.
